The thesis
AI does not create value in isolation. Value shows up when capability is integrated into day-to-day practice—where decisions are made, documented, audited, and acted on.
What breaks in reality
- Sidecar tools die in the last mile: extra clicks, extra context switching, unclear accountability.
- Outputs without ownership create risk: “who signs off?” becomes the actual question.
- No integration = no learning loop: you can’t measure impact or improve reliably.
Principles
- Integrate at the point of use (where the user already is).
- Design for accountability (who reviews, who approves, who escalates).
- Treat monitoring and telemetry as part of the product.
What I look for
- Clear “before/after” in how work happens (not just how text is generated).
- Evidence that users trust the system enough to use it under time pressure.
- KPIs tied to clinical and operational outcomes, not vanity metrics.
